Homework
Homework is vital to your child’s progress at school. It extends their learning outside of the classroom and further develops their understanding of the work which they do at school.
We believe that one of the reasons for the many successes of pupils at Nicholas Breakspear is the attention paid by the school to the development of good homework habits and study routines.
Homework will be set for the following purposes:
- Pre-learning (i.e. flipped learning, research)
- Checking on knowledge and understanding
- Practice
- Revision
Establishing Routines
It is essential that your child gets into good homework habits – your role in their homework is vital and they will not get into good habits without your support. Ways in which you can support your child are to:
- Provide a suitable environment where your child can complete homework, without distractions
- Allocate a time each evening for your child to complete homework
- Check homework timetable
- Check Class Charts
- Where feasible, complete homework on the day it is set
- Encourage 20-30 minutes of reading (for pleasure/interest) to develop your child’s literacy skills
If you have any questions about your child’s homework, please do not hesitate to contact their Form Tutor or Head of Year. Thank you in advance for your support with your child’s homework.
