Assessment
Assessment, both formative and summative, is focused on our guiding principles of Nurture, Believe and Succeed.
Our approach to assessment, with the feedback and support that students are provided, places emphasis on nurturing the individual to empower our young people with the confidence to believe in themselves and to succeed.
Key Stage Three
During the course of the year there are three assessment windows, in which all pupils complete an assessment in each of their subjects. Following these assessments, a report is sent home, identifying the level reached in each subject. At Key Stage Three pupils are awarded the following levels:
Level | Description |
---|---|
Mastering | The student consistently exceeds the expected standard of knowledge, skills and understanding expected for their age. |
Securing | The student is advancing beyond the expected standard of knowledge, skills and understanding for their age. |
Developing | The student is working at the standard of knowledge, skills and understanding expected for their age. |
Emerging | The student is working towards the standard of knowledge, skills and understanding expected for their age |
Detailed level descriptors for each subject can be found on the subject area of the website.
In order to identify the level of progress following each assessment, pupils are a set a target level. These targets are primarily based on pupil’s performance in their Key Stage 2 exams and reflect the high aspirations that we have in the school.
Key Stage 4
In year 10 there are three assessment windows, in which pupils complete an assessment in each of their subjects. In year 11 pupils have two sets of Pre Public Exams in which they complete exams in each of their subjects. In Key Stage 4 assessments pupils are awarded a GCSE or vocational grade.
At the beginning of each year students are given target grades. These targets are based on students’ Key Stage 2 results and reflect the high aspirations that we have in the school.
