Most Academically Able

At Nicholas Breakspear Catholic School we aim to help every single student reach their full potential through high quality teaching and learning, stimulating extra-curricular opportunities and a shared commitment to developing global citizens.

Students are identified as most academically able when joining in Year 7 and this is reviewed every term, following assessments and teacher input.

We support our most academically able pupils by:

  • Presenting them with work that challenges, stretches and excites them, whilst providing support for this within a culture of high expectations.
  • Increasing the confidence and independence of your child.
  • Encouraging pupils to develop specific skills or talents across the curriculum.
  • Providing enrichment opportunities in the form of educational visits.
  • Provide extra-curricular opportunities in the form of clubs, such as the History Debate Club or school magazine.
  • Providing links to suggested lectures, talks and workshops of interest.
  • Giving pupils the opportunity to apply to the NBS Scholars programme. This is an extended project involving research, academic writing and a presentation. The successes of our NBS Scholars are celebrated with a graduation evening.
