UCAS & Post-18 Opportunities
Our sixth form team offer both practical and pastoral support to pupils as they discuss and explore the different routes they can take after sixth form. Our sixth form team give pupils support in the writing of their personal statements, providing mock-interviews, support in the application for student finance, putting pupils in contact with business professionals and past NBS pupils who work in their field of interest and offer practical, personalised advice to support them every step of the way.
The school also offers all students their own individual access to Unifrog; a careers and destinations online platform which empowers students with the knowledge required to compare and assess all opportunities open to them both at university and in employment. This also enables our members of staff to track and manage the progress our students make in terms of their future destinations.
The sixth form enjoys close links with local universities Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire as well as Oxford and Cambridge as part of the UCAS programme undertaken in the Spring and Summer terms of year 12. We have a number of speakers in from these universities to deliver sessions on applying to university, writing a personal statement and student finance. On average around 80% of each cohort go on to undergraduate study with many gaining places at the prestigious Russell Group. For pupils seeking to apply to Oxbridge or to pursue a career in medicine further support is offered to prepare them for the rigorous interview process. For students looking to go straight into employment or a work based route there is also lots of guidance and support. We have links with multinational companies such as Glaxo Smith Kline and Ernst and Young who send apprentices and more experienced members of staff to lead on talks and practical sessions.
