Sport at NBS

At Nicholas Breakspear Catholic School, our students have the opportunity to get involved with sport at all levels.

We offer both both boys and girls a wide variety of sporting activities, including Football, Rugby, Netball, Cricket, Athletics, Gym and Dance. Every evening is devoted to sporting activities, with most clubs running from 3.15 – 4.30.

Our Astro-turf is open all year round and in all weathers for students to enjoy a range of sports, both within the timetable and during lunchtimes and afterschool clubs. In addition, our enviably large school site contains extensive Rugby and Football pitches. Our supervised Fitness Suite is extremely popular and well-used by our students, providing an excellent way for them to build fitness and condition as well as participate in an enjoyable recreational activity at lunchtimes.

We participate in competitive sports against other schools in Football, Rugby, Basketball and Netball, opening the way for our students to develop excellent teamwork and leadership skills. We participate in competitions at national, county and district level in Athletics, Basketball and Football.

Our annual evening Gym and Dance Display (usually featuring a short ‘surprise’ demonstration by our braver teachers) has become a firm fixture in the NBS school calendar, displaying the outstanding talents of our students, and raising funds for our thriving PE Department.

The sporting year culminates in our much-loved Sports Day, which allows the students to participate in healthy competition between Houses. The enthusiasm and support shown by the students for each other is heartening to see, and every student is involved, with team games such as Rounders and Mixed Football taking place as well as the usual array of Athletic events.
