Learning Information Centre (LIC)
The LIC is situated in the centre of the school and is a wonderfully quiet study area providing essential information and support to pupils and staff at Nicholas Breakspear.
Opening Hours & Facilities
The LIC is open daily, 8am-4pm (it is open later on some days for homework club). It has seating for 48 students, 16 computers (all internet connected) and over 10,000 books; fiction and non-fiction and quick reads. Comfy seating to enjoy lunchtime reading books, newspapers and magazines. As well as photocopying facilities for students and staff.
Using the L.I.C
Everyone is welcome to use the L.I.C. during break, lunch and after school to research, borrow books, complete homework and to relax. Subject Teachers regularly book their classes into the L.I.C. to use resources to support their studies. The L.I.C. staff encourage students to use the resources in their own time for pleasure and homework.
We have an exciting new library Web App which gives users access to all of our resources; plus other relevant news articles and items of interest for your independent learning: https://uk.accessit.online/nch00/#!dashboard
Ofsted Inspection Report – November 2023 – “The school considers reading to be hugely important. There is a comprehensive range of reading programmes, which ensures that the weakest readers keep up with their peers. These programmes include regular library lessons and support from trained sixth-form reading mentors.”
