Marist Mercy Care Charity

The school supports the Marist Mercy Care Charity – The Place of Mercy & Hope.

This charity assists families who are from incredibly disadvantaged communities throughout the Sundays River Valley, Eastern Cape, South Africa, with a specific focus on Education, Nutrition and Basic Health Care helping thousands of beneficiaries.

Education

2 educational facilities caring for over 200 poor and vulnerable children annually, creating employment for 14 dedicated local educators. Each child is fed daily and our resident medical doctor and nurse perform body mass index measurements ensuring their growth and development is in accordance with the World Health Organisation.

Nutrition

The charity is dedicated to stepping up their efforts to alleviate hunger and malnutrition in the area. They run Soup Kitchens in a number of Formal and Informal Settlements feeding over 400 children and adults weekly. They also distribute food parcels daily.

Adult Learning

With 4 Computer Labs, computer lessons are taught throughout the Valley, offering children and adults the chance to learn and understand the importance of the IT literacy.

Youth Empowerment

A Summer Camp is held annually in December welcoming children throughout the Valley. The Youth Empowerment program develops every year. They welcome just under 500 disadvantaged children, 20 special needs children and over 50 local and international volunteers.

Entrepreneurship

The goal is to empower local women by providing them with the skills necessary for sewing and embroidery. Addo Township Designs was born which supplies school uniforms to local schools, creates handbags and can embroider anything customers require.

Health Care

Their mission is to assist those incredibly sick and dying by providing Health Care.

They have three dedicated Home Based Carers attending to those who have HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis, Cancer and other common South African illnesses.

With a part time nurse and Medical Doctor the facilities are under extreme demand by the communities.

NBS Support

Every year, the Student Leadership Team and staff, organise a week-long charity event dedicated to raising money for Marist Mercy Care. Watch this space for more information on this years event.
