Welcome to the Sixth Form Centre

Sixth Form Centre

The school has a dedicated Sixth Form Centre and students can choose from a broad curriculum.

Students in the Sixth Form can expect to continue their studies as part of a friendly, purposeful and ambitious community. We are passionate about achieving exam success along with producing adults who are, in line with our student profile: compassionate, aware, wise, conscientious, resilient, eloquent, faithful and prepared for their future lives.

The most recent Department for Education value added performance data shows that our students make outstanding progress with the average grade students achieve higher than the national average. Our students benefit from dedicated teachers who are subject experts, with the added advantage of being taught in small classes.

Pastoral Care, Support and Guidance

As with the rest of the school, our Sixth Form has its own dedicated Pastoral Support Coordinator who is there to ensure each individual student transitions to sixth form smoothly and to support their wellbeing over the next two years . During the year we have additional wellbeing activities from external providers including our annual retreat with STEP.

Individual tracking of academic progress is closely followed and any potential underperformance is picked up to ensure you achieve your target grades.

Enrichment and Extended projects

We place importance on ensuring that each student has the opportunity to develop new interests, get involved with the school or local community, as well as learn new skills.

We offer a diverse enrichment programme, including activities such as the Extended A Level project (EPQ), Community Sports Leadership Award, Dragon’s Apprentice, Debate & Public Speaking as an example of a few offered. Students have the opportunity to act as mentors for younger students, as well as leadership opportunities through the Prefect System and Student Leadership Team.

The Sixth Form also benefits from an attached Chaplain, Father Fidelis. He provides spiritual guidance for students and actively participates in assisting students in their Oxbridge applications and in the Sixth Form Enrichment Programme.

Preparation for Post 18

Post 18 careers can follow different routes; namely University, Apprenticeships, employment or even a gap year.

The majority of our students look to go on to OxBridge and Russell Group Universities however there is now an increasing demand for Degree Apprenticeships in all industries.

To date we have students who have taken places at a number of top Russell Group universities, as well as places at Medical School and Degree Apprenticeships from law, civil service and construction companies.

Preparation for this starts early in Year 12 and involves the use of outside agencies such as tailored career mentoring, guest speakers from industry sectors and Universities, full access to UNIFROG and UCAS sites and university visits.

With all these differing strands, we aim to provides all our students with the skills and confidence to leave NBS Sixth Form and succeed in an ever changing world.
