During Easter, the spirit of compassion and service shone brightly as NBS Group 763 embarked on a transformative pilgrimage to Lourdes in the south of France with HCPT. Affiliated with HCPT since 2017, this year witnessed the largest number of sixth formers from NBS participating in the pilgrimage, offering invaluable support to disabled and disadvantaged children and young people on a life-changing journey.

The entire pilgrimage, comprising approximately 5000 members, embraced the ‘Let Your Light Shine’ theme. Our students exemplified this theme throughout the week-long journey, radiating positivity, joy, and a deep sense of community spirit. Their unwavering dedication to supporting their ‘family’ groups and assisting at significant events was commendable, earning praise from fellow pilgrims for their infectious joie de vivre.

The pilgrimage commenced on Easter Sunday with a Mass filled with uplifting singing, setting the tone for a week of spiritual enrichment and meaningful experiences. Our students actively marshalled duties during the poignant Tuesday evening Torchlight Procession, a visually striking event that brought together countless young people in faith and solidarity.

One of the week’s highlights occurred on Thursday when the HCPT family congregated as one at the Trust Mass held in the Underground Basilica. With over 5,000 members from HCPT, the Irish Pilgrimage Trust, and other international groups in attendance, this Mass served as a pinnacle moment, fostering unity and deepening spiritual connections among all participants.

Sacrament of Reconciliation: A Healing Experience for NBS Group 763 in Lourdes

Amidst the bustling activities and profound moments of faith during our pilgrimage to Lourdes with HCPT, another poignant highlight emerged—the sacrament of reconciliation, organised by Fr. Fidelis. This reconciliation service provided our students with a transformative opportunity to release negative thoughts and emotions, especially those harboured towards others, and to experience healing from the pressures of life.  Held opposite the grotto and the holy shrine where Mary appeared to Bernadette, the sacrament of reconciliation offered a serene and sacred space for reflection and renewal. Under the guidance of Fr. Fidelis, our students embarked on a journey of introspection and reconciliation, seeking solace and spiritual healing amidst the tranquil surroundings of Lourdes.

While Lourdes served as the focal point of the pilgrimage, our students also had the opportunity to explore the surrounding region, including destinations such as Gavarnie in the Pyrenees and the picturesque seaside town of St Jean de Luz. Some even ventured to the local zoo or explored enchanting caves, further enriching their pilgrimage experience.

Throughout the week, our students put their faith into action and ensured that the children they accompanied had a memorable and joy-filled journey. By embodying the spirit of service, compassion, and camaraderie, NBS Group 763 left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who participated in this life-affirming pilgrimage.

As we reflect on this profound experience, we express our gratitude to HCPT for providing us with the opportunity to partake in this journey of faith and service. Together, we have illuminated the path with our light, spreading hope and love to those in need.

This pilgrimage seems to have been a truly transformative experience for NBS Group 763. They not only strengthened their faith but also made lasting memories and connections with others. It’s inspiring to see young people actively living out their faith and positively impacting the world.

In the spirit of continued service and faith, we look forward to future opportunities to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
