The Cambridge National in Child Development covers all aspects of child development and parental responsibility, from conception to five years. Students develop the essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to create the best conditions for a child’s development and well-being.

This course is for those who wish to develop applied knowledge and practical skills in child development. It is designed with both practical and theoretical elements, which will prepare students for further qualifications in Child Care, Health and Social Care, Psychology, Sociology and Biology.

The course consists of the following units:

  • Unit 1 – Health and well-being for child development
  • Unit 2 – Understand the equipment and nutritional needs of children from birth to five years
  • Unit 3 – Understand the development of a child from birth to five years.

Antenatal care and preparation for birthPostnatal checks, postnatal provision and conditions for developmentEquipment for babies from birth to 12 monthsEquipment for babies from 1-5 yearsNutritional guidelines and requirements for children from birth to five yearsFeeding solutions for children from birth to five yearsPhysical, intellectual and social development norms from birth to five yearsLearning through playPlay activities for children and toddlers

Assessment

The course will be assessed through units which will consist of a mixture of centre assessed, internally verified and externally moderated units, plus a written exam paper which is externally marked.
